AB  - Jiří Komárek was born on 28 May 1931 in Brno. He started his studies at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University in Brno (1949 - 1951) and then, during the years 1951 - 1957, he continued with his postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Science, Charles University under the guidance of another legend of world algology, professor Bohuslav Fott.
